The traveling trophy for the region which donates the most money to PAC will be awarded at the Virtual Joint Annual Meeting (JAM) coming up at the end of the month. You may donate on-line now ( www.ASCLS.org , log in, then select the DONATE tab) or at the JAM through the meeting app. PAC donations support legislators who advocate for causes important to ASCLS and the practice of clinical laboratory science. It is a way for laboratory professionals to have a voice in Government since so many laws and regulations affect our practice. One recent example is the meeting Patrick Cooney, ASCLS Legislative Consultant; Jim Flanigan, ASCLS Executive Vice President; Cindy Johnson, ASCLS President; and Rick Panning, ASCLS Past President had with senior staff of Senator Patty Murray, Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. Senator Murray had asked for information on issues surrounding testing capacity during the pandemic. This meeting occurred because of the relationship ASCLS has built with Senator Murray. If you are registered for the Virtual Joint Annual Meeting (JAM), watch for sessions on being a “Labvocate” to understand the issues ASCLS is following. If you have questions about the PAC, there will be a Zoom Room (at the JAM during breaks) with PAC Trustees who can answer your questions. Thank you for supporting the ASCLS PAC! Any solicitation for contributions to ASCLS/PAC is intended solely for members of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, an individual membership organization, for the purposes of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1976, as amended. ASCLS does not solicit or accept contributions from individuals who are not members of ASCLS. -- Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak Information COVID-19 is the most serious epidemic to occur in centuries. The Department of Health is a leading source of information about this disease. For the latest information about the 2019 Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak, please visit the of Washington State Department Health Website for up to date information. CDC Lab Advisory: New COVID-19 Data Tracker Website for Laboratories From time to time we will repost information that has been made available through ASCLS. Julia O'Donnell, ASCLS Director of Marketing and Communications, has recently posted "CDC Lab Advisory: New COVID-19 Data Tracker Website for Laboratories" which we believe is of major interest to Laboratory Professionals. The information below is directly taken from her posting. This information is from the CDC which ASCLS is working closely with. Information specifically for clinical laboratories: www.cdc.gov/csels/dls/locs On Thursday, May 7, 2020, CDC published a new, public-facing COVID-19 Data Tracker website. The site features laboratory testing data that detail specimens tested and reported by U.S. laboratories, including commercial and reference, public health, and hospital laboratories. Laboratories can use this website to access a variety of laboratory data: Number of tests reported nationally and by state Number of positive tests nationally and by state Percentage of laboratory test results that are positive nationally and by state The data presented are aggregate data reported to CDC from state health departments and territorial jurisdictions. If a state did not report laboratory data for a specific day or is not reporting negative results, data presented on the website reflect what is reported on the state health department website or in the HHS Protect System. The website explains that the number of positive tests in a state is not equal to the number of cases, as one patient can be tested more than once, and not all laboratory tests are reported to CDC. In future updates, county-level data will be provided and reported publicly. If you have additional questions, please contact CDC's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Laboratory Working Group at eocevent405@cdc.gov.
